You're Not Broken Just Bent

To say that the Saving Grace Memorial Hospital psychiatric ward was extensive would be a bit of an understatement. The entire first full day a patient spend on the ward was spent in processing undergoing a general medical exam, having pictures taken of any marks on their body, and ungoing a great deal of test to assess exactly what physical health they were in.

Dr. Amberlynn Cross, or Amber as she was better known had just brought a patient who had been committed by authorities the previous night for a court ordered stay in their rehab center in to the processing room after his pre-exam shower. She closed the door behind them, pulled the dark black shade over the window, and locked the door. “This process is a long one, I’ll admit that, “ she told him, “and some of the things may seem a little pointless, but I promise everything has purpose. It’s also a bit uncomfortable for a lot of our patients, but again, everything has a purpose.” She had no idea just how personal this entire case was going to be for her.

Remy frowned when he heard her voice, it had been years since he had heard it, but he knew that voice anywhere. He couldn't believe he was forced to be here right now.

Amber hadn't yet registered that the Jeremy Mills on her patient file was the same Jeremy Mills she'd last seen the night he was arrested several years before. The father of her son. The love of her life.

Remy stayed quiet, not ready to deal with the woman that just up and left. He felt bitter as he sat there, refusing to face that he had still loved her the whole time.

A quiet moment as the realization dawned on her. "I tried to come see you, when you got out..."

"No you didn't..." Remy muttered, still not looking at her. As far as he knew she never looked for him.

"I did Rem," said Amberlynn, tears already brimming her eyes, "But they told me if I tried, they'd arrest me, too, and I'm not just taking care of me anymore."

Remy looked at her, they had told him no one had tired to see him. All her words hadn't sunk in yet.

"When you got locked up, I found out I was pregnant..."

"You what? Pregnant..." Remy looked at her, hurt and angry that she hadn't ever told him.

"We have a son, Rem. I didn't know until after, I wanted to tell you. I was gonna tell you when I went to see you."

"You couldn't of called? You where planning on never telling me?" He grumbled.

"That's what you don't understand, Rem, I couldn't." Her eyes teared. "They threatened to take Noah if I contacted you at all..."

"That was years ago..." Remy couldn't shake the bitter feeling.

"Are you not understanding me?" Amberlynn asked, getting frustrated with him. "They were going to take our son, how was I supposed to know if there was some kind of time limit on that?"

"There were a hell of a lot of other ways you could of told me!" Remy moved to leave the room.

"He wants to know you," Amberlyn said gently.
